Staffs in hunt for top spot victory

Staffordshire take on Suffolk in their final match in Group 2 of the Minor Counties Cricket Association Knock-out Cup tomorrow with their future in the competition in their own hands.

Victory will guarantee Staffordshire top spot in the group, and a home quarter final tie, as they continue their way to a Lord's final.

But they also have a possible safety net.

They need Northumberland to win their final match at Hertfordshire to draw level with Staffordshire on points in the group, whilst an abandoned game would also guarantee Staffs top spot in the group..

Staffordshire are taking no chances by naming a squad of 13 for the trip with Norton bowler Greg Willott being added to the 12 who were named for the victory over Hertfordshire in their last match.

One player likely to be in the starting eleven is opening bowler Will Purser, who has made an excellent start to his Staffordshire career. The match is to be played at Mildenhall Cricket Club in Wamil Way, Mildenhall and starts at 11.00 am.
