Cheshunt 0 Halesowen 2

Leaders Halesowen had to wait patiently for two late goals before condemning rock bottom Cheshunt to their ninth consecutive defeat.

Yeltz could only name three substitutes due to illness and departures but hopes of an easy three points were raised when Cheshunt cleared a vicious volley from Stuart Pierpoint off the line after just two minutes.

However, the rest of the first half looked anything but a top-against-bottom clash although Halesowen forced several more corners without creating real danger against a packed home defence.

Relegation certainties Cheshunt battled but offered little and wasted a promising 34th minute free-kick on the edge of Halesowen's area when Lorcan Fitzgerald blazed high over the bar.

Five minutes before the interval, Eldon Maquemba's half volley was tipped around the post by Cheshunt goalkeeper Corrin Brooks-Meade.

Halesowen found a 62nd minute breakthrough from the penalty spot when Denny was tripped by Fitzgerald after latching onto a rebound when Ikechi Anya struck the post.

Dean Brennan stroked home the penalty despite Brooks-Meade getting a firm hand to the ball.

Captain Darren Caskey then secured the win with a fine strike into the bottom corner on 77 minutes from Maquemba's lay-off.
