Boss Charlie Blakemore believes Miller can plug the gap left by Chris Slater at sweeper, while he has settled midfielder Steane's future to ward off potential interest from rival clubs.

"We have lacked a sweeper since Chris has gone, but Ross has always impressed me and, at 23, he has the potential to be a really good player in that position," said Blakemore.

"He has pace, he is athletic and he can read a game."

Blakemore admitted Miller may not go straight into the team for tomorrow's crunch clash at Leighton.

"He will need to come up to speed and we will have to be patient with him, but it's good to get him and I'm sure he will be involved over the next couple of games."

Steane was one of the heroes of Chasetown's FA Cup run and Blakemore is delighted to have secured the 25 year old's future after losing other Cup stars Slater, Kyle and Vaughan Thomas.

"Clubs from a league or two higher were sniffing after him," said Blakemore.

"But he is really happy here and we have done this to stop any distractions.

"He has been a fantastic player for us but we've lost a lot of lads from the Cup run and he is one I didn't want to lose so I am pleased.

"The Scholars are without midfielder Dave Woodbine (hamstring) tomorrow, but John Branch – who came on for him at the win at Leamington is set to replace him.

Defender Joe Williams is available after missing the Leamington game through illness, but Todd Perry is expected to keep his place.

The club have completed the signing of former Wolves reserve midfielder Marlon Walters following a spell in the United States.
