New Stafford Rangers manager Steve Bull had said he wouldn't be taking charge of the team until next week's home game against Frickley Athletic.
But the Wolves legend couldn't resist having his say and was quickly involved in the game shouting out orders to his players.
Bully had been forced from his seat in the stands when Halifax did most of the early attacking in what was a scrappy opening.
Stafford suffered an early setback in the 26th minute when Draper replaced the limping Hopkinson.
On a very poor playing surface which started to cut up Stafford began to restrict the home side's chances without seriously threatening the home goal.
Buut there was plenty of nervous moments for the new manager as the home side almost scored with good chances either side of the hour mark.
