Steve Bull is expected to be unveiled as the new Stafford Rangers manager tomorrow. A press conference has been arranged at the Boro's Marston Road ground.
With the club 11 points adrift of the safety zone in the Blue Square Premier, the former Wolves and England striker will have a mammoth task on his hands in his first managerial role.
Caretaker managers Kevin Street and Neil Grayson, who have been in charge since December when Phil Robinson left the club, today pledged their support for Bull.
Grayson said today: "If he comes in it will be a big boost for the club and he will get my full backing."
Street added: "If I can help Steve in any way I am more than willing to."
The pair were speaking after they both scored in a 2-1 win at Forest Green Rovers which moved the club up to third from bottom. And although 11 points behind they have games in hand.
"After the win over Weymouth and then playing well in the abandoned game against Histon, beating Forest Green gives us a chance of staying up," said Street.
Saturday's clash at Halifax is expected to be Bull's first as manager of Rangers, with his first home game in charge coming against Farsley Celtic on March 1.
Street said the players had been lifted by the prospect of Bull being named as the club's new manager.
"The excitement surrounding Steve has given the club a new dynamic and we're hoping for a big crowd for his first home game. Hopefully he can come in and use his connections."
Rangers chairman John Downing declined to comment today.
Bull, who was in Stafford on Friday on a promotional visit, has made no secret of the fact he fancies taking the helm at Rangers and says he does not believe the club is in "dire straits."
