Five-star Albion took managerless Coventry apart in the second half to reach the last eight of the FA Cup for the first time in six years.

The Baggies struck four times in the final 31 minutes as 10-man Coventry self-destructed following the sending off of Michael Doyle.

The returning Roman Bednar scored twice to take his tally for the season to 14 as Albion went goal crazy after the break.

Substitute Ishmael Miller and Zoltan Gera also scored Chris Brunt's headed opener before half-time.

There was no way back for the demoralised Sky Blues once captain Michael Doyle was dismissed for a late tackle on Gera just three minutes after half-time.

Albion flew from the blocks and swarmed all over their hosts and it was no surprise when they went 1-0 ahead in the 12th minute.

Bednar latched onto a quick throw-in and crossed to the unmarked Brunt to head home.

But the visitors were forced to withstand lots of pressure for the remainder of the first half from an extremely direct home side.

However, they survived until the interval and they could have led 2-0 when Bednar headed against the bar from a Brunt free-kick.

Albion's task was made easier three minutes after the restart when Doyle was shown a controversial straight red card for a late tackle on Gera.

And the game was effectively over on 59 minutes when a howler by Coventry keeper Andy Marshall presented Bednar with a tap-in to make it 2-0.

From then on Albion ran riot and Bednar added his second from the penalty spot to make it 3-0 after Arjan De Zeeuw's hand ball.

The final two goals arrived in as many minutes.

First, substitute Miller raced clear and shrugged off Elliott Ward before beating Marshall.

And Miller then fed Gera who produced neat footwork before adding the fifth.
