Wolves legend Steve Bull was today being linked with a sensational return to football – as manager of Stafford Rangers. Rangers, currently marooned 13 points from safety at the bottom of the Blue Square Premier, are believed to be considering appointing the 42-year-old. The 306-goal record Molineux goalscorer is currently involved in a PR role at Wolves which involves working on matchdays, something he would have to give up if he took the job. Ironically, if Bull got the job, he would be replacing former Wolves team-mate Phil Robinson, who was in charge at Marston Road for five-and-a-half years before resigning in December. Steve BullWolves legend Steve Bull was today being linked with a sensational return to football – as manager of Stafford Rangers.

Two of Robinson's signings, Neil Grayson – the same age of Bull – and Kevin Street are currently in caretaker charge.

But Bull has always harboured a dream to manage one day and may see Stafford as the ideal opportunity, despite their perilous position.

He said recently: "Wolves know I'd love to manage one day, although I don't know whether Mr Morgan (owner) does.

"If I have to start at the bottom or in non-League, then fine, but I just want a chance."

The former England international's only management experience came in a brief spell as a player-coach under former Wolves boss Graham Turner at then Conference side Hereford in 2000.

But he has his UEFA 'B' coaching qualifications and recently revealed his desire to coach the strikers at Wolves.

"I'd love to do my apprenticeship under a top manager one day. If it doesn't come, it doesn't come," he said. I've love to be a strikers' coach. I'm available and on the sidelines waiting, but I'm patient."

The news comes after Rangers are celebrating their first home win in the Blue Square Premier this season with a 2-1 success over Weymouth – the only team Rangers had beaten away this season.

Goals from Grayson and youngster Courtney Shaw, on his debut, lifted them to second bottom.

Grayson said: "It's a great feeling. We were struggling for players and I know not winning at home plays on your mind before games."
