Chasetown boss promotion hope
Chasetown boss Charlie Blakemore has backed his revamped side to continue their promotion bid at Dunstable tonight.
Chasetown boss Charlie Blakemore has backed his revamped side to continue their promotion bid at Dunstable tonight.
The Scholars kicked on from the disappointment of losing six players after their FA Cup exit by beating Malvern 4-0 at the weekend, courtesy of Dean Perrow's third hat-trick of the season.
And Blakemore believes the changes which have paired giant defender Andy Penny and Todd Perry at the back and Danny Smith introduced up front can only benefit the club.
"I was really pleased with the performance against Malvern," said Blakemore.
"To me it was a fantastic response to the euphoria of the Cup. The lads showed how much they wanted it.
"Andy Penny came in at centre-half alongside Todd Perry and did really well.
"Danny Smith played up front with Dean Perrow and that partnership is a really good one.
"I've got two of them holding the ball up and they can both link the play. We've just got to get it into feet."
Blakemore has plenty of options, what with Nathan Lamey coming off the bench to score the fourth at the weekend.
"Nathan scored with his first touch," said the boss. "He's gone away and lost some weight and I was really pleased with him."
Left wing-back Nick Aulton (shin) is a doubt after a heavy tackle against Malvern. Mark Branch stands by.
Blakemore is still looking for a target man-type striker to replace Kyle Perry, who has joined Port Vale.
