Kidderminster are still in the hunt for a play-off place after a dramatic stoppage time winner from Russ Penn.
The midfielder struck with a header to kill off relegation-haunted Farsley who led 1-0 at half time.
Damien Reeves put the visitors ahead on 17 minutes before James Constable lifted Harriers back on to level terms with his 13th goal of the season shortly after the interval.
Fourth-from-bottom Farsley's first visit to Aggborough ended in heartbreak, however, when Penn headed defender Jeff Kenna's pin-point cross past diving goalkeeper Curtis Aspden.
It left tenth-placed Kidderminster five points adrift of the play-off zone and in good heart for tomorrow night's home FA Carlsberg Trophy second round replay against Weymouth.
It was another personal triumph for Penn after notching Harriers' equaliser when they drew 1-1 earlier in the season at Farsley, who have now won just once in their last 12 league outings.
Yates praised his side's never-say-die spirit on Saturday which earned them their seventh home league win of the campaign.
"I thought the spirit and attitude was excellent, although I'd have rather the goal had come a little bit earlier," said the boss, who is hoping to nudge closer to the play-offs by winning at Droylsden on Saturday.
Farsley shook Harriers when a slip in the centre circle by Michael Blackwood allowed Reeves to run clear and skilfully steer his shot past keeper Scott Bevan.
Battling Harriers finally equalised in the 51st minute when Michael McGrath set up the opportunity for Constable to turn on the edge of the area and fire past Aspden.
"Even at 1-0 at half time we thought we could get back into the game if we just took our chances. We got a goal early and just concentrated and it's good we didn't panic," said the former Walsall striker.
