Assistant manager Neil Howarth felt that they were the better side on the day.

"We did enough to win the game but Weymouth put a lot of players between us and their goal which made it difficult to open them up," he said.

"We tried hard and you cannot fault the players for their efforts as James (Constable) forced two good saves from their keeper and we had appeals for two penalties turned down. I felt we were the only team looking to try to win the game."

Harriers put in a better performance than the midweek defeat at Altrincham a fact not lost on Howarth.

"We cannot criticise the players when they put in as much effort and hard work as today, we wanted a response to Tuesday's defeat and the players did just that," he said.

Weymouth dominated the opening exchanges but found Harriers defence in no mood to concede as Mark Creighton won the early heading duels with both Wilfried Domaraud and the lively Gavin McCallum.

Russ Penn was just wide of the mark when he tried to convert Constable's seventh minute centre with Iyseden Christie firing over moments later as Harriers tested the home rearguard.

Weymouth keeper Jason Matthews was by far the busier of the two keepers smothering a close-range Christie effort before getting down smartly to his left to turn away Constable's low drive.

Harriers enjoyed greater territorial advantage in the second half, Andy Ferrell the main instigator, but still the Weymouth defence held firm.

The introduction of Justin Richards and Simon Russell sparked more life into Harriers and, from Richards' run and cross, Constable again found Matthews equal to his effort.

Richards was in buoyant mood despite Harriers draw.

"I think I am offering more to this team in my performances but would like to score more goals," he said.

"This season I have managed to score seven times but I have been involved in many more that we have scored. Ten assists is a good tally for the team and there is more to come."

The replay is at Aggborough tomorrow (7.45pm).

Harriers: Bevan, Bignot, Blackwood, Creighton, Whitehead, Ferrell, Bennett (Russell64), Penn, McGrath, Constable, Christie (Richards64). Subs: Hurren, Smikle, Barnes-Homer.
