Rushall boss attacks fixture list

Rushall manager Paul Holleran today hit out at Southern League schedulers after his side found themselves with a fourth blank Saturday of the season.

Holleran is struggling to understand how his side were again without a match this afternoon despite playing a host of midweek fixtures already during the campaign.

And he has admitted he and his players are becoming increasingly frustrated with the shortage of Saturday games. Holleran said: "We haven't got a game – again.

"I really don't know why, but the fixture list has been pretty hard to understand right from the word go this season.

"But it really isn't very good when you've got players and fans who struggle at times to make midweek matches and yet they are all available on a Saturday but have no match to go to.

"It has already happened to us three times this season but on one of those occasions we managed to get a game re-arranged for the Saturday.

"We didn't have a game on the Saturday and yet we were due to play on the Monday night so our secretary managed to get the game moved forwards by two days.

"But on the other occasions we were left without a game, which is no good to anyone and I think it's something that needs looking at."

Holleran's men went into their unwanted break on the back of a crushing win as they thrashed Rothwell 6-0 away on Tuesday with the help of four goals from Richard Beale.

And the manager has also been boosted in recent weeks by the return to fitness of a host of key players, with striker Paul Szewczyk due back in the next week from his latest bout of knee trouble.

Richard Brown has joined Boldmere this week on a temporary contract and will play two or three games for the club as he attempts to rediscover full fitness before returning to Dales Lane.

And Holleran is generally happy with his team's recent progress.

"It wasn't just the win at Rothwell that pleased me," said Holleran.

"Our last few performances have been pretty good and thankfully the lads have picked up the points that their efforts have deserved.

"And after all of the injury problems we had earlier in the year we are getting most of our players back now.

"I've got so many players I feel like Charlie Blakemore at Chasetown.

"If I could just pay them £30 per week I would feel exactly like him."
