Chasetown ticket rush
Almost all of the tickets for Chasetown's FA Cup tie with Cardiff City have been snapped up – but last-minute safety work could see an extra 400 released.
Almost all of the tickets for Chasetown's FA Cup tie with Cardiff City on Saturday have been snapped up – but last-minute safety work could see an extra 400 tickets released later this week.
Fans queued for hours at the ground yesterday where about 400 tickets went on sale to supporters with stubs for the team's home games against Port Vale and Nuneaton.
A last 100 were due to be sold today to fans who could produce a stub from one of the two matches but an announcement on the club website means there is still hope for fans hoping to be at Church Street for the biggest game in the Scholars' history.
Anna Wilcox, aged 12, herself a keen footballer, was first in the queue at the ground yesterday after cheering her heroes at their matches against Port Vale and Nuneaton.
She said: "I think they're going to win."
Anna is captain of Chasetown's Under 13s girls squad. Anticipation has grown since the win against Port Vale earlier this month.
Marketing manager Scott Phillips, 39, said he would be satisfied with a draw on Saturday. Scott, of Burntwood who has supported the team since the age of five, said: "I'd like it to be 1-1."
Scott Brown, 17, of Burntwood, echoed the prediction fof 1-1 but lorry driver Gary Smith, 47, said: "It's going to be a hard match but I'm hopeful. "It's 90 minutes.
"Anything could happen – and we won't miss a penalty like Port Vale."
The first tickets were issued at the end of last week to season ticket holders, voucher holders and executives.
The match will kick off on Saturday at 1pm.
