Yeltz on track for play-offs
General manager Colin Brookes believes that Halesowen Town are on the right track to reach the play-offs.
General manager Colin Brookes believes that Halesowen Town are on the right track to reach the play-offs.
The Yeltz have lost just once in eleven games under new manager Morell Maison and Brookes feels that with the new signings Maison has made, they are on course for promotion.
"The new signings have made a difference," Brookes said.
"We've got a lovely mixture to the squad now, with the experience of Caskey and Devlin and young players like Maquemba. The mixture is right and we're in with a shout this season. We need to average two points per game now to be in with a shout of the play-offs.
"Morell believes we're still in with a chance of the title.
"That is remarkable considering that three months ago we were in about 15th or 16th place."
Brookes also confirmed that the club are hopeful of making the loan deals for goalkeeper Mark Osborn and player-coach Darren Caskey permanent.
"Darren wants to stay and hopefully we can come up with some kind of deal with Kettering," Brookes said.
"We're also looking to sort out a deal with Histon for Mark Osborn.
He has about six weeks left and we want to keep both of them.
"It's no coincidence that since they've come in we've gone on a good run.
"We're still looking to bring players in and Darren (Caskey) was away looking at players on Saturday."
An understrength Halesowen Town side suffered a 5-1 friendly defeat at the hands of Midland One side Sutton Coldfield Town last weekend, but Brookes described it as a "useful exercise" in allowing his side to develop its newfound footballing ethos.
"Sutton played very well and it was a useful exercise, but you don't want to get beaten 5-1 in any game," said Brookes.
"We had six experienced players out and the likes of Devlin, Caskey and Maquemba make a big difference.
"The fans are coming back now and we're playing good football.
"In fact, the coach for Brackley was full up by Monday, so that says something about the way we're playing."
The club have also confirmed that they have rescheduled their postponed match with Hitchin Town for the 29th December.
