McNiven scored twice in the 3-1 success which was Stafford's first win at Marston Road since April and boosted the club's coffers with the £4,000 prize money given to first round winners.

Grayson was delighted that strike partner McNiven had started to find the net again.

"David has now got three goals in two games so hopefully he can go on one of those scoring runs we know he is capable of," said Grayson.

"I've known him for a few years. He had a good run here last season and he's done that everywhere he's been. I hope he can stay on that goal trail."

McNiven and Grayson are now joint leading scorers with six goals each as Stafford prepare for Setanta Shield action against McNiven's former club York on Saturday.

Joint caretaker-player-manager Grayson, who scored the third goal, was delighted with the outcome.

"I'm delighted to have finally brought the run of no wins at home to an end," said Grayson.

"The performance wasn't a patch on last week at Aldershot. We didn't get anything last week and not performed as well this week and got a victory.

"Our second goal was crucial and gave us some breathing space. We got three goals for the second game in a row which is pleasing and hopefully we have started to score again. This is what we are after."

The result means Grayson and Street have overseen an improvement following the departure of Phil Robinson with a 0-0 draw against Northwich Victoria and a 4-3 defeat against Aldershot.

Stafford have announced reduced admission prices for the Setanta Shield tie.

Adults can watch the game for £10 while concessions will pay £6.
