Halesowen felt the benefit of extra midweek training by ending ten-man Mangotsfield's long unbeaten run to continue their surge up the league table.

But the visitors started brightly with Jack Allward cracking the post after beating Halesowen's defensive wall from a fourth minute free-kick.

Goalkeeper Mark Osborn then saved low down from Neil Arndale and Osborn then produced an excellent save to keep out Alan Griffin's eighth minute header after he ghosted behind the defence.

The Yeltz took the lead with their first attack on 10 minutes when Dennis Pearce converted a right-wing corner in a crowded goalmouth.

Eldon Maquemba could have increased the lead five minutes later after shrugging off a challenge but blazed over the bar from within the six-yard box.

The game was over for Mangotsfield when Alex Ball received a straight red card in the 42nd minute after hauling down Maquemba on the edge of the area.

Although Maquemba pulled himself up to be clear on goal, the referee had already blown and the advantage was lost with Dean Brennan chipping the resulting free-kick over the bar.

The second half produced few chances on the sodden surface but Halesowen secured the points with a second goal in the 72nd minute when former Leicester City full-back Scott Lycett pushed forward to collect and control Darren Caskey's long free-kick before slotting past goalkeeper John Rendell.

The Yeltz confidently stroked the ball around to play out time and almost added a third goal when Shane Paul curled just wide in injury time.
