Rushall cup clash postponed

Rushall's FA Trophy replay with Clitheroe has been postponed pending an FA investigation into claims their opponents fielded an ineligible player.

Olympic were due to travel to Lancashire tonight to face the Unibond Division One North side in the second qualifying round replay after the two sides scrapped out a 1-1 draw at Dales Lane on Saturday.

But the Pics have lodged a protest with the FA following suspicions that Clitheroe fielded a player who should have been serving a suspension.

The FA will now rule whether or not the replay goes ahead, or whether the Pics will go straight through to the first round proper where the eventual winners will face a home tie with Ossett Town.

Rushall secretary Pete Athersmith said: "We have lodged a protest with the FA because we think Clitheroe played a player who should have been under suspension.

"The FA are carrying out an investigation and the replay has been postponed while that takes place."

Rushall have since been thwarted in their attempts to rearrange their British Gas Business League Division One Midlands clash with Chesham United for tonight instead.
