The Scholars pulled off a coup with the signing of the 27-year-old striker after his release from Bromsgrove.

Lamey chose Chasetown ahead of Hednesford, Worcester, Stourbridge and Willenhall, saying he had heard good things about the club.

The Leeds-born hitman trained with the Scholars for the first time on Thursday night, 48 hours after an outing with Shifnal to keep match-fit.

Former Wolves, Cambridge, Moor Green and Hinckley forward Lamey was the British Gas Business Midland division's 31-goal top scorer last season and he joins a logjam of forwards at Church Street with 11-goal Dean Perrow, Kyle Perry, Danny Smith, Karl Edwards and Bullimore.

But manager Charlie Blakemore insisted Lamey will simply add to the competition up front.

"We haven't got a league game for two weeks and we didn't have one today, so it's important to have numbers around us and Nathan's a fantastic signing," said Blakemore.

"We need competition in important areas if we get injuries or suspensions.

"Dean Perrow has scored 11 goals and is playing superbly well – he's the best striker I've seen at this level.

"People forget how young Kyle is – he's just turned 21 – and we've also got Karl Edwards and Danny Smith who bring something different and Lee Bullimore, who brings something different again.

"Kyle and 'Bully' are physical and get amongst it, Dean and Nathan can hold it up and score and Danny, who can also play wide and in midfield, has real pace.

"I've had Danny since he was 16 and he's my real diamond. Nathan's scored goals at a higher level than this and brings experience and a bit of nous to us because we're quite a young side.

"When you get a player like that with the pedigree he has, there was no way I was going to miss out on him."
