Robinson in Rangers war cry
Stafford Rangers manager Phil Robinson has issued an FA Cup war cry to his battered troops for tonight's final qualifying replay at Cambridge.
Stafford Rangers manager Phil Robinson has issued an FA Cup war cry to his battered troops for tonight's final qualifying replay at Cambridge.
Robinson reckons his underdogs have caused the Us so much trouble in their two recent meetings that they can go on to claim a first round spot against either Aldershot or Crawley.
And the fact they must go to the Abbey Stadium to do it is not a worry:
"At the moment, it doesn't matter to us whether we are home or away," he said. "Our away record has been pretty good, we've had some excellent results recently and hopefully we can keep their crowd quiet," said the Rangers boss.
"We showed on Saturday that we can cause them a lot of problems, especially in the second half and we believe that we can go on and win this. We're definitely looking forward to the challenge."
Rangers, though, will have to do it without striker Marco Adaggio who was injured winning the penalty that levelled Saturday's first encounter.
He was taken to hospital, but fears that he had broken his leg were not realised.
But Robinson said: "It could be worse, depending on what is going on inside his knee. Even though there is no break, Marco has damaged the knee. We're hoping to find out later this week how bad it is."
Adaggio's absence could mean a recall for David McNiven – or a place in the starting line-up for Nathan Smith for the first time in 18 months.
"There are a number of options open to us," said the Rangers boss.
Right-back Richie Sutton has been ruled out for at least three or four weeks and another absentee is likely to be left-back Fred Murray, who has had flu.
On-loan Luke Potter came in for him at the weekend and proved to be a capable deputy.
The winners of tonight's replay will play either Aldershot or former Rangers star Guy Madjo's new club Crawley at home on November 10.
