Kidderminster manager Mark Yates has confirmed he will try to make on-loan midfielder Dean Bennett a permanent signing in January.

Yates has been impressed enough with Bennett's second spell at Aggborough to extend his loan from Chester to three months.

And the Harriers boss now has designs on keeping the 29-year-old with a transfer-window swoop already being planned.

Bennett returned to Aggborough at the start of the season after falling out of favour at the Deva Stadium.

Yates said: "Dean has done very well for us since he came back to the club and he gives us a bit of quality.

"He has had a few games where he hasn't performed as well as he would have liked so I'm sure he will be looking to stay consistent between now and the end of his loan. But overall we have been really pleased with how well he has done.

"We will certainly be looking to try to make something happen in January because Benno is the kind of player we want to be keeping.

"We haven't talked to Chester about it yet so it is by no means a done deal.

"At the moment he is just with us for three months and that is it.

"But we will speak to Chester in January and if they don't want him he is certainly someone we would be keen to hang onto."

Bennett's presence not prevented Harriers suffering a stutter in their form of late with just one win and five points from five October matches in the Blue Square Premier sending them back into mid-table.

They went into today's FA Cup clash with Vauxhall Motors on the back of league defeats to Histon and Weymouth, and Yates admitted that a lack of confidence in the squad is currently his prime concern.

The manager said: "Our form hasn't been very good over the last couple of weeks and we are well aware of that.

"The performances we have produced in the last two matches haven't been particularly good and there is no point in me trying to hide that fact.

"I think the lads are lacking a bit of confidence at the moment and we are just trying to instill that bit of confidence and belief back into them.

"We had a decent week of training and the lads looked pretty sharp, and we had a good reserve match in the week as well.

"But it's all about them having the confidence and belief in themselves when they go on the pitch."

Yates is hoping that leading scorer James Constable can return to full training in the next 10 days after his hamstring injury.
