Robinson said: "Crawley is a difficult place to come as they are having a really good season so far.
"They have a strong squad with some depth to it. Obviously we knew the qualities that Guy Madjo possesses and how well he did for us last season.
"We knew it was going to be a difficult game and we had to make a couple of enforced changes.
"I was delighted with the way the players acquitted themselves.
"I thought we were worthy of a point and in the long period of injury time at the end we were pushing for the win.
"For Nathan Smith to get a goal so soon into his comeback is pleasing for everybody."
Once again Robinson was forced to select from a squad down to the bare bones and had to bring himself on as a second half substitute.
With both Scott Loach and Cedric Avinel both returning to Watford at the end of their month long loan, Robinson drafted in 20-year-old former England schoolboy international Will Puddy on loan from Cheltenham Town and gave a first league start to young defender Jemiah Richards.
Rangers' injury problems got worse during the game with Richard Sutton stretchered off with a damaged hamstring and skipper Wayne Daniel was left hobbling with an ankle problem.
