Robinson blamed the referee's blunders for two late Rovers goals and a red card for defender Jimi Sangare which puts him out of tomorrow trip to York City. "The referee cost us the game. His decisions were bizarre - we didn't know which way he was going to give them," said the Rangers boss of Middlesbrough's Ross Joyce. "With the two incidents that led to their last two goals, I cannot understand why he gave a foul against us and why he waved play on when Wayne Daniel was fouled.

"I am just so disappointed for the players to give so much effort, to then have the game taken away from them by poor officiating."

"Jimi Sangare is going to be a massive loss to us. I cannot understand why he was sent off for a good tackle, taking the ball cleanly from the side. To send him off was ridiculous.

"There were a lot of positives from a playing point of view - a good team performance against the league's in- form side. The only negative was the referee's performance."

The genuinely unlucky defeat leaves Rangers entrenched in the Blue Square Premier relegation zone, six points behind Farsley in 20th place.

However, striker Nathan Smith made a surprise appearance on the bench on Saturday, more than 18 months after he last played.

He has been recuperating from knee surgery and Robinson said: "It is good to see him back on the pitch, although we must not expect too much from him too soon."

Also coming on for the last few minutes of the match was Rangers' latest signing, Sebastian Hamilton.

The 23 year old right winger has made a permanent move from Romulus FC, who play in the Southern league (Midland division).

"We have been tracking him and watching him for some time and he has trained with us for the last few sessions and we have taken him on board.

"He is a creative player with pace and strength which we like about him," said Robinson.
