FA Cup underdogs Chasetown earned a second qualifying round replay against Blue Square South side Cambridge City, but manager Charlie Blakemore will be left wondering just how his side did not complete the task first time at Milton Road.
A dream start with a goal from captain Lee Parsons in the opening three minutes, was followed by two disallowed goals and a host of chances for the Scholars.
Cambridge were stunned as Chasetown grabbed an early lead when Kyle Perry teed-up Parsons to plant a low drive past keeper Martin Davies.
The Scholars were denied a second when Dean Perrow was adjudged to have fouled Davies before slotting the ball home.
Perrow went close again when he steered tthe ball just over the bar. Chasetown had the ball in the net once but Perry's effort was ruled out for offside.
Perrow should have added a second for the visitors as he was left in acres of space in front of goal, but somehow turned the ball wide of the goal with Davies stranded.
Cambridge levelled just after the break when Josh Simpson lashed home a low shot past Evans and into the bottom corner of the net.
After Perry and Perrow went close, the Scholars were indebted to keeper Evans who smothered a late effort from Steve Wales.
