We can kick on - Carl
Carl Hoefkens insisted Albion will only get better after they kicked off their home campaign with victory over Preston.
Goals from Kevin Phillips and a wonderful solo effort from new boy Ishmael Miller sealed the points for the Baggies.
Hoefkens, another of the 11 new faces following his £750,000 move from Stoke, was pleased to get that first win under the team's belts following defeat at Burnley on the opening day of the season.
But he admitted there is plenty of room for improvement from him and the rest of Tony Mowbray's men.
"I know I can play better than on Saturday," Hoefkens admitted.
"But I'm delighted with the performance of the team. We said before the game it doesn't always have to be pretty.
"We just wanted to get the three points and get used to winning games.
"That's what we did.It wasn't very fluent at times but we've got a lot of new players from different teams and they're used to different styles of play.
"We need to get used to each other. But I think, given all the circumstances, we did really well.
"Preston are a team that always challenge for promotion and the play-offs and we took the three points.
"They didn't have many chances and, as a defender, I'm always delighted when we keep a clean-sheet.
"I like going forward to support the attack but the main thing is to keep a clean-sheet. We did well.
"Everyone was concentrated and worked hard for each other. We can't have passengers in the team."
Hoefkens, who has linked up with Belgium ahead of their Euro 2008 qualifier against Serbia on Wednesday, was impressed by fellow defender - and another of the new signings - Leon Barnett.
It was only the second time the pair had played alongside each other on the right hand side of the Albion defence.
And Hoefkens is convinced the 21-year-old has what it takes to become a Hawthorns hit after registering a first clean sheet for his new club.
"Leon is very young but all he needs is some support and talking to," said Hoefkens.
"If you can talk him through the game, he's great. His heading is good. He's fantastic.
"I think he's going to be a wonderful, very strong defender."
Hoefkens also reserved praise for master marksman Phillips who opened the scoring in the 65th minute.
"Kev is an amazing goalscorer," Hoefkens added.
