Extra training for Harriers

Kidderminster Harriers players were punished for their dismal loss at Grays Athletic by being ordered to turn up for extra training yesterday.

Manager Mark Yates locked his side in the changing rooms for an hour after the game and read them the riot act after they leaked four first half goals in the 5-1 defeat.

Grays' striker Danny Kedwell notched a hat-trick and Ben Watson also scored as they went into the break 4-0 up.

To make matters worse Yates, who was serving a touchline ban, had to watch his side's "unacceptable" display from the sidelines.

He said: "We were defensively poor. We talked about building a platform to work on from the back but we won nothing. We lost our headers, tackles - everything.

"The players knew I was not happy. We now have to stick together and put it right.

"I do not think there's anything drastically wrong but any more performances like that and there will be."

On the plus side, a better second-half showing saw Harriers substitute Iyseden Christie score his first goal of the season.

The former Coventry City striker slotted home a penalty shortly after half-time before some more abject defending allowed in Aaron O'Connor to score Athletic's fifth.

Boss Justin Edinburgh said: "We were excellent from start to finish."
