Holleran tells strikers to shine
Rushall boss Paul Holleran has challenged his back up strikers to stake their claims for regular places against Barton Rovers.
The Pics head into the Southern One Midlands opener with former Halesowen strike pair Dean Dowdall and Paul Szewczyk both likely to miss the first week of the season.
Damian Charie and Duncan Willetts are set to deputise against big-spending Rovers.
And Holleran has promised the pair they will keep their shirts if they perform.
"Dean and Paul missing gives an opportunity to one or two others and it is up to them to stake their claim and put me in a position where I can't bring them back," said Holleran.
"If they play well they will keep the shirt - if they don't they won't.
"We've had a bit of a hit and miss pre-season up front but I always feel it's better when the proper football starts.
"In patches we have done well but we have probably not had the opportunity to play Damian and Duncan together as much as we would have liked.
"But we have got options and as we get a month into the season it would be nice to have all the players up top available."
Holleran reckons the Pics couldn't have asked for a tougher opening fixture at home than Barton.
"They've been outbidding what I would consider 'bigger' clubs for players and they will be coming here with a bit of quality," added Holleran.
"But we have added quality as well so it has all the makings of a very tough but good game."
