Staffordshire's juniors saw their hopes of reaching the final of the Drakes Pride County Championship thwarted as they were brushed aside by a much older Yorkshire side.

The home leg played on the flawless Woodfield top green saw Yorkshire take immediate command as they produced three winners from the first four games.

Stuart Ruthven, provided some solace with a well earned 21-16 victory. Olly Chard produced Staffs' man of the match performance, despite losing 21-20.

Special credit should go to Ben Mellar, who showed great tenacity to fightback from 15-4 down to lose 21-15.

The middle four saw the contrastin ages really come to the fore as the predominately 17 and 18-year-old Yorkshire side bowling against 12 and 13-year-old Staffordshire juniors.

Yorkshire again took three of the four matches with their best result coming from Jonathan Peacock with a 21-6 return.

A further 21-6 card for Keiren Smith emphasised Yorkshire's superiority as they raced to a 57 shot victory.

The away venue at Golcar Liberal club in Huddersfield again saw Yorkshire in the ascendancy as they started strongly, taking three of the first four cards.

Neil Ewart was in exceptional form to see off top Staffordshire junior Mark Orme 21-8.

Nathan Dawes provided Staffordshire's sole victory in the first four.

A clean sweep for Yorkshire in the middle four was headlined by Daniel Radcliffe, with a magical performance his namesake would be proud of by winning 21-4.

Chad Parker provided the only other winning Staffordshire card as he won 21-17. Results Woodfield (top green): O. Chard 20 J. Hanson 21, S. Ruthven 21 J. Wilcox 16, A. Smith 15 S. King 21, B. Staffordshire's Alliance side repeated last years victory over Potteries with an excellent seven-shot triumph.

Using the tricky ECC green proved to be an inspired choice and following an excellent start provided by Langley's Jamie Elliott and Dudley Dell's duo Steve Ashfield and Jason Westwood they never looked back.

Despite a rare off day for Alan Parsons Staffordshire cruised home by 14 shots.

At Fegg Hayes, another excellent away performance saw superb Victories for Dave Hayward (21-10) and Lyndon Hazelhurst (21-12).

Aided by John Newey's 21-17 win Staffordshire restricted the Potteries to a seven shot home triumph.

Their final game is against fierce local rivals Warwick and Worcester in what is likely to be a lively game.

Second placed Chadsmoor suffered a 13-1 defeat at Woodfield, which significantly reduces their titles chances.

Nordley Liberals were too strong for Short Heath Liberals, although five winners for the Short Heath side has given them hope of avoiding relegation.
