Rangers sunk by early goal

An early goal, a saved penalty and the woodwork condemned Stafford to defeat on the opening day of the Blue Square Premier season.

Manager Phil Robinson gave a debut to three of his summer recruits - Djoumin Sangare, Chris Flynn and Greg Stones - and welcomed back previously on-loan striker David McNiven who signed permanently on Friday.

McNiven's twin brother, Scott, coincidently made his debut for Farsley.

Both sides created changes during the lively opening exchanges with the game's first attempt on goal from Celtic's Ryan Sugden deflected for a corner.

David McNiven drilled a low shot wide from just outside the area and strike partner Neil Grayson sent a dipping volley flashing past the Farsley net.

With Rangers starting to get on top, Farsley netted what proved to be the winner in the 12th minute.
