Wolves slip to another defeat
Two days, two away matches, two defeats for Wolves, as the speedway side followed up their loss at Coventry on Friday with a 39-50 reversal at Eastbourne on Saturday night, writes Dave Goddard.
On a fast Arlington track surface, the side put up a much better fight than they had the previous night, but the Eagles, led by Nicki Pedersen and Davey Watt, were just too strong.
The main plus for travelling supporters was the return to form of Billy Hamill, after a couple of weeks in the doldrums.
He streaked from the start in his opening ride in heat 3 only to be taken by Watt, before clearing away in front in heats 7 and 12.
Only a non-finish in the final heat and a further defeat by Pedersen blunted his record.
The American now has high hopes that his luck has finally turned around. Peter Karlsson was his usual rapid self, inflicting Pedersen's only defeat of the night in heat 15, and also produced a superb pass on Watt to join David Howe for a 5-1 in heat 5.
Brother Magnus was sadly out of luck after his good performance at Coventry, and despite experimenting with his machinery could not master the track, although his gating was excellent.
He was unlucky to hit a rut in heat 7 after rounding the home pair on the first bend, dropping him to the rear.
The rutted turns also caught out Howe, who suffered a nasty looking spill in heat 8, but, fortunately, suffered no further injury to his healing collarbone.
With Cameron Woodward already excluded, it left William Lawson to face Eagles guest Leigh Lanham in a two-man re-run.
Lawson showed signs of improvement on the night, but guest Tom P Madsen sadly did not.
Engine trouble saw him timed out of his first ride in heat two, and he failed to trouble the opposition in his other two races.
