TV's Adrian has fingers crossed
Television presenter Adrian Chiles is in a state of nervous tension over the outcome of the Baggies' season which culminates in Sunday's home game against Barnsley on Sunday.
A natural pessimist when it comes to supporting the Baggies, the Hagley-born broadcaster says it pays to hope for the best but to expect the worst as far as Albion is concerned.
And after travelling to the Ricoh Stadium on Saturday to watch Albion play the Sky Blues, his outlook is no brighter, despite West Brom's win.
He says: "After Saturday's win against Coventry, anyone who takes it as a given that we're going to win on Sunday was watching a different match to me. Our home performances are shaky at the moment and our form against the lower sides is not good. We're all going to end up in a lunatic asylum at this rate."
The amiable presenter of The Apprentice after-show interviews said the Baggies are predictable only in their unpredictability.
"After some fantastic results and riding high at the top of the Championship, we go to bottom-of-the-table Southend United on New Year's Day and we're three-nil down by half-time.
"When it comes the to the Albion, I don't know anything anymore," he said.
On the possibility of meeting Wolves in the play-offs, he said: "I'd rather meet them over two legs than in a play-off final.
"We've played them so often this season already – and on that score, we're ahead 6-1 on aggregate. But let's get there first." The 40-year-old was not at the Molineux when the Baggies took on their arch rivals this season, deciding to watch it in the Match Of The Day 2 studio because he could not bear to be there if the Baggies lost.
"I've said a few things about the Wolves over the years and I don't think any of their fans would take a pop at me – but I don't fancy giving them the chance. I'm going to be there on Sunday come what may for the Barnsley match."
