Monmore refit to boost status
Monmore Green greyhound stadium is in line for a refurbishment which will cement its status as one of Wolverhampton's premier sporting venues.
The entire downstairs bar and betting area is being transformed with first class facilities.
It is the first improvements since a £700,000 new kennel block was opened in 2004.
In 2001, it underwent a £1.2 million overhaul.
Its owner, gambling giant Ladbrokes, is investing thousands of pounds to bring the bar up to scratch and create an outdoor terrace. The Tote betting area will also be spruced up.
Architect Mark Evetts, of Birmingham-based Keane Brands, said: "Ladbrokes want to upgrade the facilities at Monmore Green and bring it into the 21st century. It will still offer the same facilities but in much nicer surroundings.
"The bar area will be given a completely new look and be transformed into the kind of trendy bar you may find in the high street.
"The bosses want people to come there and enjoy a drink at all times, regardless of whether they are there to watch the racing."
The proposals also include a cafe selling snacks and new furniture throughout.
A planning application has been submitted to Wolverhampton City Council and will be decided within weeks.
