Man-of-the-moment Scott Dann today dismissed talk of promotion nerves at Walsall and insisted: "We just had a bad day on Saturday".

Dann, whose brilliant equaliser in stoppage time earned his side a point against Rochdale on Saturday, said the poor performance at Bescot at the weekend was not down to promotion jitters.

"I don't think so," he said. "We knew the game was going to be hard because all teams are desperate for points at this stage of the season so we're going to have to battle for all the points we get.

"But I don't think it had anything to do with players' nerves, we just didn't play as well as we would have liked."

Dann provided a grandstand finish to Saturday's match when he ran from inside his own half, beating three defenders before finding the bottom corner for a 93rd-minute equaliser.

But the overall performance left Saddlers fans scratching their heads, and Dann has warned Saturday's game could be typical of the remaining matches in the promotion race.

"We just take every game as it comes and not worry too much about what is ahead," said Dann. "A lot of games are going to be like that between now and the end of the season.

"Teams know that if they try to play against us and let us play we will turn them over. So teams are coming here and trying to make it really hard for us instead and that's why we have to stay really strong."
