Wolverhampton is to stage one of the summer's biggest domestic speedway meetings.

And Monmore will not even have to change from its regular Monday racenight to accommodate the fixture, writes Tim Hamblin.

Promoters are revamping their major events this season in a bid to bring in more spectators and ensure the attendance of top riders.

Full details of the meeting will be announced on Thursday at the MCN London Motorcycle Show at ExCel.

But Parrys International Wolves promoter Chris Van Straaten was delighted to land the plum event on Monday, June 4.

"I have always shied away from changing my race day to get major events," he said.

"It's an important move to realise that we can't continue to have changes, when we try to put things on at weekends.

"It helps raise the profile and guarantee attendance of major competitors."
