"It was a very hardworking performance," was the manager's reaction at the Pirelli Stadium.

"There were a lot of players who performed well defensively."

Fielding a side with added strength and experience, he added: "We had to weather the storm when we were under pressure for periods because they are such a good team.

"We saw out the difficult periods and in the second half with the wind behind us we picked up some momentum, kept the ball in good areas and carved out a couple of good opportunities."

Nathan Talbott was pushed into midfield and assistant manager David Oldfield made his first Conference start for the club.

But perhaps the main talking point from a game of few clear-cut chances was the decision to disallow a 75th- minute goal which Stafford thought had given them the lead.

Substitute Dolapo Olaoye got his head to a vicious inswinging corner from Ged Murphy but the referee spotted what he considered to be a foul on Burton keeper Kevin Poole.

Robinson said: "I felt the goal should have stood. Their keeper collided with one of his own defenders not one of our players so we are frustrated we didn't get the three points.

"The referee says the keeper was blocked but we don't line-up with anyone on the keeper. Even their players said Kevin Poole collided with one of the defenders."

The point leaves Stafford stuck in 15th position in the Nationwide Conference table.

On Saturday they will look for revenge against Stevenage at Marston Road, the side that beat them 6-0 back in September. Tonight's reserve team game at Worcester City has been postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
