Wolves target treble top deal
Wolves want to retain all three of their top riders for the 2007 speedway season. They are keen to reach agreement with contracted assets Peter Karlsson and Freddie Lindgren for the March campaign.
And they have already approached Coventry, who hold Billy Hamill's registration, about obtaining his services again next year.
The planning was revealed by team manager Peter Adams after a 2006 season which provided top-drawer entertainment but saw the team miss out on an Elite League play-off spot.
"Peter Karlsson finished fourth in the national averages and I really do think that his next season could be even better," said Adams.
"The only thing you've got to remember is that, at 37 next season, if he gets hurt it takes a little longer to come back from it. But we want him back as captain next year.
"What we are pleased to see with Freddie is that he is developing consistently. He's not a flash in the pan rider who suddenly has a nine-point average but is then up and down.
"I see him following in the tyre tracks of someone like Bjarne Pedersen at Poole, getting better year on year until he is an established Grand Prix rider and an out and out number one.
"There are some areas of his organisation off the track he has to hone. I'm having a meeting with him to discuss that.
"But I think he is a rider who can go all the way in the sport."
Adams felt that Hamill had two major drawbacks to overcome this season - the horrendous crash injuries that he suffered at Swindon in 2005 and his hugely successful years in the colours of Wolves' rivals Cradley and Coventry.
But he said the American had regained his confidence and won the supporters over with his riding. "I think they are all on his side now," he said.
"I know that Wolverhampton have approached Coventry and asked if he would be available for next season."
The points limit for 2007 was originally set for an increase from 40 to 42.5 but will be decided at next month's promoters' conference,
Adams confirmed that Wolves would be looking to strengthen in the second string department.
