Rangers chase FA Cup windfall

Stafford Rangers have been given a great chance to go in the hat for the FA Cup first round - and also collect a £10,000 prize. The Conference club's final qualifying mission will be at home to lower league opposition.

Yesterday's draw will bring either Ossett Albion or fallen Coca Cola League side Scarborough to Marston Road on October 28, with the winners getting the cash prize.

The third qualifying round replay tonight sees Ossett Albion of the Unibond First division - not to be confused with Ossett Town of the Unibond Premier - go to Scarborough's McCain Stadium hoping to cause an upset, having forced a 1-1 draw at the weekend.

But Rangers boss Phil Robinson said: "Whoever it is, Ossett or Scarborough, it'll be a blood-and-thunder cup tie, because there is so much resting on the outcome.

"This will be a tricky one, and, while we are pleased we are at home, at this stage of the FA Cup I don't think that makes too much difference."

Rangers have never previously played Ossett Albion, while the last meeting with Scarborough, in January 2004, saw Rangers triumph 2-1 at the McCain in the FA Trophy, courtesy of Danny Davidson's brace.

Robinson will almost certainly use tonight's Staffordshire Senior Cup tie at Tamworth to give players not currently in the starting line up some match practice and also to have a look at the clutch of promising youngsters coming through the ranks.
