Penalty poser taxing the boss
Villa boss Martin O'Neill admits he is considering other penalty takers after Juan Pablo Angel's nightmare day. Angel scored an own goal and missed from the spot for the second time this season against Tottenham in Saturday.
The record £9.5m signing has now missed five of his last six penalties, including two in one match in 2004-05 against this weekend's opponents Fulham.
And O'Neill says he would prefer to have a pool of several takers.
"He scored against Scunthorpe on the rebound, so we'll have to think about that one," said O'Neill. "If you get a volume of takers, I'd be delighted.
"But I don't want just one sticking their hand up and saying 'I might take it if we are leading 5-0'. I could take it in those circumstances.
"The missing of the penalty seemed bad enough, but when he put it into his own net, it made for 90 seconds he'll want to forget for a while."
Angel is defiant however, insisting: "I'll keep going, absolutely. It doesn't change at all."
Captain Gareth Barry spared Angel's blushes with his finest goal to clinch a point and he left Villa Park to more choruses for him to be recalled to the England squad.
Midfielder Stiliyan Petrov says Barry is "world class".
"From what I've seen so far, Gareth is a world-class player and I think he deserves an England call. He showed again why he should be called up. He acts like a real captain."
Owner Randy Lerner watched from the director's box and the American is remaining at the club this week to discuss future plans with O'Neill.
