Chris conquers all on Severn
Island peg 30 came up trumps again on the latest Bridgnorth Squad open on the Severn, giving Chris Cadwallader (Bridgnorth) a narrow win over Brian Preece (Middy Bridgnorth)
Chris landed eight barbel and a few chub for 51-15-0, with some of the fish coming to pellet and some to maggot.
Brian was on peg 1 at Wrens Nest, where 11 barbel and a solitary chub added up to 51-13-0. All his fish came to pellet.
The top two were well ahead of third man Sid Whitcomb (Birmingham) who led a string of close weights in the rest of the frame.
Sid weighed 20-9-0 at peg 92, Pete Simmonds (Sabrina) had 19-15-0 in fourth place, Dan Shinton (Bridgnorth) framed again, and was just 4ozs behind "Simmo" on 19-11-0, and Mark Taylor (Bromsgrove) rounded things off with 17-12-0.
Bridgnorth have the first of their Middy sponsored opens on the river on Saturday. The draw is at the Vine Inn, Lowtown, 9.00am. Entry is £20 all in, book with Rosa, 01746 766774.
l The God's Waiting Room match group and Phoenix Tackle combined to run a charity match at Dorset Pools on Thursday, when bait was restricted to maggot only, plus 1 kilo of groundbait.
The fish seemed to like the restriction, and gave a pretty good frame.
Bob Hill led the catches with 42-2-0 from peg 30, but had John Beesty snapping at his heels right up to the final whistle. John finished with 41-12-0 at peg 1.
Mike Winwood wasn't far behind on 37-3-0 in third, and Dave Paignton completed the frame with 29-13-0 for fourth place.
When all of the sponsorship money is collected, it is expected that the match will have raised over £500 for the Severn Hospice.
Thanks go to all who contributed, especially Barry Archer, who donated the venue for the day.
