Bescot trial for keeper

Walsall have offered an extended trial to French goal keeper Bertrand Bossu after he impressed in last night's reserve game at Albion. The giant former Gillingham man will spend the next few days training with Richard Money's team after appearing in the 1-1 draw at The Hawthorns.

Money is set to take a close look at Bossu on the training ground as he continues to consider the possibility of recruiting a senior understudy to first choice keeper Clayton Ince.Money said: "The goalkeeper has been in the country for quite a while now and he is looking for a club.

"He played for Darlington last year, but broke his ankle in January and that gave him a knock back.

"Dave Hodgson, the Darlington manager, wanted to give him a contract at the end of last season, but the club didn't do it because of his injury. But he has got himself fit and he is now looking at his options.

"We wanted to get him a game last night to have a look at him and we managed to get him in the team.

"He made two or three saves he is 6'5" tall and he looks interesting.

"He will stay with us for a bit longer so we can take a look at him some more."

Money was also boosted at last night's reserve game by the return of striker Alex Nicholls after a five month lay-off due to a broken leg.

Nicholls suffered the injury in April while playing for the youth team after making several first team appearances last season.

He was awarded a first professional contract in the summer and he stepped up his comeback with a first taste of match action.
