Chris is 'comeback kid'
Chris Simmonds (Northwich) made a successful come-back to match fishing after a long lay off, with a clear win on the latest Bridgnorth Open on the Severn.
Weights were down on the high levels seen after the rain had freshened the river, and Chris doubled the runner up weight when he scaled 62-6-0. Peg 49, above the boat hole gave him the win, when 11 barbel and a few chub responded to pellet feeder tactics.
The man in second was Chris's travelling companion and fellow Northwich rod Rob Olive. He was on peg 93 at Gadstone, and had seven barbel for 31-6-0.
It was a close run thing for third place, which Johnny Stockton (Heathway Tackle) sneaked from Mark Beard (Bell Otters). John weighed 28-10-0 and Mark 28-5-0.
Frame regular Graham Wade (Willow Creek) completed the prize list with 24-8-0 in fifth.
A pleasing feature of this match was the large number of roach showing.
The next Bridgnorth Open is on Sunday draw 9.00am at the Vine Inn, £15 all in. Bridgnorth also have two opens lined up which will be sponsored by tackle manufacturers Middy, whose sponsorship will include a Middy goodie bag for each competitor.
The first of these matches will be on Sunday September 23 and the second, which will be a float only event, will be on October 22. Entry for each will be £20 all in.

Another angler making a big impact on his return to match fishing this week was Mark Mountford (Shifnal). He has been concentrating on golf for some time, but two wins and a second spot in three matches at Aston Eyre should ensure he is absent from the tee more often.
Mark kicked off the week with a runner up place on Wednesday behind Dake McGill (Craven Arms) who maintained his form at the venue with a 73-10-0 winner from peg 30.
Mountford was on the next peg, and warmed up for the weekend with 60-10-0 for second. Len Woodall (WAC Tackle) took third by scaling 48-7-0.
Mountford gave paste a try at peg 18 on the Saturday open and edged ahead of Craven Arms regular Sam Jones. Mark scaled 59-4-0 and Sam was just one fish short on 56-14-0 at peg 20. Dake McGill framed again, third this time with 43-14-0 at peg 10.
Sunday's finish was even closer, and the top three all passed the 100lb barrier, with Mark just getting top spot again when he netted 119-7-0 at peg 12 using paste.
Shaun Walton (Little Dawley) also used paste at peg 15, and was agonisingly close with a level 119lbs.
Third this time went to Jamie Potts (Wood End). He was on peg four and weighed 103-10-0.
