Wolves ace third in world title bid

Christian Hefenbrock tasted glory with a rostrum place in speedway's world under-21 championship. But there was heartache for team-mate Freddie Lindgren, who topped the qualifying charts with 14 points only to fall when lying second in the final.

The Swede was excluded from the rerun in Terenzano, Italy which was won by Polish rider Karol Zabik - ironically tailed off fourth in the original race.

The other unlucky rider was Poole's Antonio Lindback, who was leading the final before the stoppage and took second in the rerun with Hefenbrock third.

"I am so happy," said Hefenbrock, the first German rider to make the top three in the history of the event.

"Lots of Wolves supporters were there at the track. It was a very nerve-wracking meeting for me.

"I was super-nervous before the final."

Hefenbrock and Lindgren return tonight as the Parrys International Wolves host Swindon (7.30pm) in a match crucial to both clubs' play-off hopes. A home win by more than four points would give Wolves the bonus in their chase for a top four spot.

The Robins could yet take one of the top two spots which would yield home advantage in the play-offs - and pulled off a surprise win at Monmore in July.

Former Grand Prix rider Tomasz Chrzanowski has scored freely since being introduced at reserve by the Robins.

Wolves: Peter Karlsson, Christian Hefenbrock, Ronnie Correy, Billy Hamill, Freddie Lindgren, William Lawson, Magnus Karlsson.

Swindon: Leigh Adams, Adrian Miedzinski, Renat Gafurov, Lee Richardson, Sebastian Ulamek, Mads Korneliussen, Tomasz Chrzanowski.
