TV presenters Ant and Dec join Newcastle United bus parade for Carabao Cup win
It comes after the Premier League team, which the pair support, won the trophy after beating Liverpool 2-1.
Britain’s Got Talent presenters Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly have joined the Newcastle United football team on an open top bus as they paraded the city to celebrate their Carabao Cup win.
The pair, who both support the Premier League team, could be seen following the squad on to a bus as McPartlin shouted “let’s get ready to rumble” in reference to the pair’s hit single as PJ and Duncan, in a clip posted to Instagram.
In another post Donnelly said: “Well, we’re about to start the parade. I don’t know how we’ve sneaked on here, how have we done this? We just followed the team on and we’re on the parade.”
McPartlin then began to chant “ole, ole, ole, ole”, while in another video the pair could be seen overlooking fans as the bus passed the club’s St James’ Park ground.
A post to the social media platform also showed a picture of the pair lifting the trophy formerly known as the League Cup, which was the team’s first major honour in 70 years.
Speaking on Sky News, McPartlin said: “We’ve just left St James’ Park, and already the roads are lined with thousands and thousands of people, this is amazing.”
Donnelly said: “A lot of people have waited a very long time to see the Newcastle players taking a trophy through the streets of Tyneside.
“It has been a long wait, but I tell you what, it has absolutely been worth it.”
McPartlin then asked him: “Big question is though, are you going to cry like we did at Wembley on the day they won?”
To which Donnelly replied: “Probably.”
McPartlin then asked if the bus could “stop at Greggs on the way” because he was “starving”.
The victory lap of Newcastle has seen the team follow a route from St James’ Park, through the city centre to the Town Moor park where a stage has been erected.
Fans lined the streets to cheer on Eddie Howe’s side, who beat Liverpool 2-1 in the final at Wembley Stadium almost a fortnight ago.
After the bus reached its destination, the players gathered on stage for a celebration in front of a ticketed crowd of 150,000.
The pair are best known for presenting ITV talent show Britain’s Got Talent, and the channel’s reality TV series I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!, after beginning their careers as child actors on CBBC drama Byker Grove.
