Brad Pitt can be seen pushing his car to the limit in a new teaser trailer for his upcoming Formula One blockbuster, which is set to open in cinemas this summer.

Titled F1, the action movie will see the Hollywood star play the fictional veteran driver Sonny Hayes who is returning to the sport after a long absence.

The new high-octane teaser for the Apple Original film, which is being co-produced by seven-time world champion Sir Lewis Hamilton, was released ahead of airing during the Super Bowl.

In the video, Pitt’s character can be seen hunting down the rest of the F1 grid on the track in his team APXGP car.

However, the racer starts to get into trouble when he challenges his rivals and appears to spin out of control.

The clip also features shots of Pitt lying back on a sofa shirtless, being pressed up a wall by a woman and another of him squaring up to his teammate and rookie Joshua Pierce, played by British actor Damson Idris.

A car can also be seen engulfed in flames while later, fireworks shoot into the sky as a commentator says: “Is this a place to take a gamble? Hayes attacks around the outside”.

Fight Club star Pitt, 61, portrays a driver who competed in the 1990s but moved to racing in other disciplines after suffering a horrible crash.

It follows the driver coming out of retirement to compete alongside rookie Pierce for the fictional APXGP team, which is sitting at the bottom of the leaderboard.

Directed by Top Gun: Maverick film-maker Joseph Kosinski, the film also features Banshees of Inisherin star Kerry Condon, Dune actor Javier Bardem, Outlander star Tobias Menzies and Killing Eve actor Kim Bodnia.

Pitt has filmed scenes of him racing an adapted Formula Two car at various F1 circuits, including in between practice sessions at the British Grand Prix.

Filming for the movie was delayed amid the US actors’ and writers’ strike.

F1 chiefs hope the film – which will be released in the UK on June 27 – will follow the popularity of Netflix’s Drive To Survive series.

The Apple film is being made in collaboration with F1, which is providing the project with special access to the race tracks and drivers.

Sir Lewis has also been heavily involved in the script to ensure the film is as authentic as possible.

F1 is set to arrive in cinemas on June 27.
