DJ Spoony ‘really good’ after brain bleed operation as he prepares for new show
The broadcaster, 54, said he was looking forward to hosting his The Good Groove show on Monday.
Radio 2 presenter DJ Spoony has said he is “really good” following his recovery from brain surgery as he prepares to host his new show.
The broadcaster, 54, said he was looking forward to hosting his The Good Groove show on Monday after spending Christmas morning in hospital.
When asked about his recovery by Mark Goodier on the radio station’s breakfast show on Thursday, DJ Spoony said: “My fitness isn’t where it was, but my health is fine.
“The scars are healing amazingly. I’m sure I’ve had paper cuts that have taken longer to heal than the operation scars.
“I’m really good.”
Last month, Spoony, whose real name is Johnathan Joseph, posted on his Instagram that he had a subdural haematoma, a condition where there is bleeding in the brain, and was rushed into surgery.
Following the operation and four nights in hospital, Spoony tearfully thanked the NHS and his family in a broadcast at the end of December.
The DJ said he has been recovering well, adding that his “beautiful” dog Prince is keeping him active: “He’s great fun when we go out on walks.
“It’s a nice way to start the day.”
The presenter will fill the late-night Monday to Thursday slot on BBC Radio 2 with his show, which previously aired on Friday nights from 9pm to 11pm.
He said: “We’re going to kind of bring the vibe and energy of Fridays four nights a week.”
Spoony also promised to bring the “old favourites” from his Friday night show to the new slot, including the New To Spoon and Rewind Selector segments.
The Good Groove show is one of three launching the same day, as Scott Mills takes over the breakfast show from Zoe Ball, and Trevor Nelson picks up Mills’s previous weekday 2pm to 4pm slot.
The BBC Radio 2 reshuffle follows Ball’s resignation from BBC Radio 2’s Breakfast Show last month, after six years in the role.
The Good Groove show will air on BBC Radio 2 on Monday at 10pm.
