Firefighters were called to rescue a 13-year-old boy who climbed on to Whittington Castle roof for a dare – and got stuck. And a 12-year-old girl and 50-year-old man needed hospital treatment after injuring themselves taking part in leisure pursuits in south Shropshire. Campaigners vowed to continue their fight after an impassioned debate in the Commons last night when MPs rejected attempts to cut the time limit on a range of options from 22 to 12 weeks. Prime Minister Gordon Brown and Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg supported the status quo, but Conservative leader David Cameron backed a reduction to 22 or 20 weeks. Wrekin MP Mark Pritchard, Shrewsbury MP Daniel Kawczynski and North Shropshire MP Owen Paterson all voted for a cut to 22 weeks, while Ludlow MP Philip Dunne, Montgomeryshire MP Lembit Opik and Telford MP David Wright all voted against a reduction.
