Fast-food chain McDonald's is bidding to open one of its restaurants in Shrewsbury around the clock. The move comes just days after the firm's restaurant in Pride Hill was granted permission to serve hot food until 5am each night. Now McDonald's is seeking planning permission to open its branch in Battlefield Road 24 hours a day, instead of the 6am-midnight opening it is currently allowed.

David Taylor, 24, of Bainbridge Green, Shrewsbury, had denied a charge of grievous bodily harm against Ludlow Town Colts player Nicholas Dahn. It followed an incident during a game between Heathgates Utd and Ludlow Town Colts. The jury returned a unanimous guilty verdict at Shrewsbury Crown Court today. Some 20 stadiums, 900 miles and 21 hours later, they completed their ambitious jaunt – and have the pictures to prove it. The parents and managers of Rowley Rangers FC raised a four-figure sum which will be split between paying for a football holiday for the youngsters and Acorns Children's Hospice. The gang of 12 set off on their journey at 4am on Saturday. They started at Portsmouth's Fratton Park, the most southerly of the Premiership sides, and worked their way up to St James's Park, where Newcastle United play. The final stop was Villa Park before heading for Sandwell Valley to watch the Rangers' own Sunday match kick-off at 10.30am. Read the full story in the Express & Star.
