Hundreds of people have turned to social networking site Facebook as part of a campaign to get 24-hour medical cover in Newtown. The group has been set up because many residents are fed up with having to travel 16 miles to Welshpool to see a doctor out of hours. Mayor of Newtown Councillor Joy Jones, the group's founder, said the site was calling for the out-of-hours service Shropdoc to be permanently based in Newtown.
