Pc Deano Walker still faces a disciplinary hearing by the West Midlands Force, but Stafford Crown Court heard that it is unlikely he will lose his job. The officer was yesterday cleared of dangerous driving, two assaults and trying to pervert the course of justice. Walker, aged 35, of Shaw Lane, Lichfield, had denied all the allegations. After the verdicts he said: "I am so pleased it is all over. It has been a very difficult time for myself and my family and I would like to thank all my friends who have supported me. The 26-year-old West Midlands Police officer, not being named, is facing court over the death of Bhupinder Kaur last December. The mother-of-three, 46, was a passenger in a purple Ford Escort which was in collision with a Vauxhall Astra police car at the junction of Neachells Lane and Willenhall Road, Moseley, on December 17. The police car then collided with a white Renault Clio waiting to turn at the junction, near The Neachells pub. The car was understood to be responding to an emergency call. A special constable famed for his "cheetah-like" ability to chase down criminals has been named the best in his division in Staffordshire. Ben Footman, who currently patrols Great Wyrley, was awarded the Special Constable of the Year title for his commitment, dedication and positive attitude, at a special ceremony held this week. The 21-year-old joined Staffordshire Police at Watling Street Neighbourhood Policing Unit in March 2005 and completed his training and competency evidence within one year. During 2006 he made 28 arrests for a variety of offences, including public order, burglary and possession of controlled drugs with intent to supply. Read the full story in the Express & Star.
