IN PICTURES: Woman rescued from blazing flat

A woman has been rescued from a burning flat in Willenhall.

The woman, thought to be in her early 40s, suffered serious smoke inhalation in the blaze.

Crews from Bloxwich, Willenhall, and Walsall Fire Stations attended the blaze in Coltham Road, Short Heath, which broke out shortly after 8.15pm last night.

The woman received treatment from paramedics at the scene.

John Hawker, a West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman, said: "Crews arrived to find a woman that had been rescued from the burning flat by the fire service.

"The woman, believed to be in her early 40's, received emergency treatment from medics for the serious effects of smoke inhalation.

"Following treatment and the patient's condition being stabilised, she was transferred by ambulance to New Cross Hospital for further emergency treatment.

"The woman was extremely fortunate to be rescued when she was as this incident could have easily turned out to be a fatal one."
