Cagey operation: Firefighters rescue trapped parrot in Oldbury

Firefighters were called to free a parrot who had become 'distressed' after trapping its head in the bars of its cage.

Crews from Oldbury Fire Station were called out to Guns Village, West Bromwich, to free the trapped bird after it had gotten its head caught in the bars at the top of its cage.

A spokesman for West Midlands Fire Service said: "The parrot was very distressed when officers arrived at the scene.

"According to our details, the scanner sent a message through that said that the parrot had stuck his head through and managed to get its beak stuck between the bars of its cage.

"The stop message eventually came through, which read: 'One parrot realised from cage. Parrot was trapped in the bars of the cage'.

"The fire fighters managed to bend the bars to free the parrot."
