Students have helped to take part in a world record dance attempt to mark the beginning of the Olympic Torch's journey.

Led by Rachel Allen, from Sundance School of Dance in Rugeley, pupils from the town's Fair Oak Academy joined in the fun at the town's leisure centre with other dance students. It was part of a world record challenge attempt involving other groups across the world. Rachel, aged 30, said: "To help mark the arrival of the Olympic torch everyone in the UK and across the world joined together to try and beat the record for the largest simultaneous dance routine.

"It went really well with people enjoying it. The challenge was for them to dance for five minutes and it was contemporary dancing." The event was organised by Big Dance 2012 - a group helping young people learn a new dance inspired by the Olympics.

Pupils between Years 8 and 11 at Fair Oak Academy took part in the routine.

The results of whether they were successful in helping others to set a new world record will be revealed soon. The Sundance School of Dance aims to further the art of dancing in providing youngsters with a chance to experience and enjoy it.

Bosses say it aims to be a place where anyone can learn to dance while also giving people the chance to express themselves through something new. Adult classes are also available. The dance school offers classes in Freestyle, Rock 'n' Roll, Ballroom and Latin. There are also cheerleading and hip-hop options.
